So I’ve been watching a couple of lads on YouTube who have a channel called “Dutch Bushcraft Knives”. They really are very funny and I do suggest you have a look if you are remotely interested in woodcraft, bushcraft, knives etc. One thing I’d never heard of was using a bushcraft knife to split logs of wood. They call this “batoning” and essentially is involves hitting the knife on the back with a baton which in turn splits the wood.

I suppose you could just use a mallet. However, I had a spare log and a bit of time last night so made one for myself. Haven’t used it yet but it was fun making it. Although, I started off trying to use the axe which resulted in the log flying off the block and hitting the garage door creating a huge bang which I think woke up the whole street.
